Our history
In the three years leading up to the founding of Leeds LGBT+ Forum, we researched local and national documentation and talked to many tens of people in Leeds to find out what was and had been going on, what the gaps were, and what the needs and wants of LGBT+ people were.
Over this period, we also:
- Supported the council’s LGBT+ History Month 2017, screening ‘Orlando’ at Seven in Chapel Allerton;at HEART in Headingley; and at Everyman in the city centre, along with LGBT+ History displays.
- Ran a series of relevant historical films to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the (partial) decriminalisation of homosexuality in October 2017 – having been involved with ‘Sage’ since 2014 (the first externally funded older LGBT+ people’s group in Leeds).
- Led on Leeds’ LGBT+ History Month in 2018
- Brought LGBT+ History Month’s ‘Outing the Past – Festival of LGBT+ History’ to Leeds for the first time in 2019.
- Found funding for and organised a series of workshops to recreate historical LGBT+ banners and placards, which were displayed at ‘Outing the Past’ at Leeds City Museum.

The talks in early July were not well attended, however some useful conversations were had, and good insights – thankyou! People are generally very interested in the three main areas…
Raffle ticket sales that ran over 3, 4 and 5 July, when Leeds LGBTQ+ Matters of Some Urgency meetings took place, were quite low… So! We only drew for one…
